Verdon, Partner, Falcon Rappaport & Berkman, LLP, on May 31, 2023, at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.

The Orange County Business Journal has bestowed its annual Family-Owned Business of the Year “Longevity Award” to Ron Salisbury and his son, Brendon Salisbury, Owners of The Family of El Cholo Restaurants. El Cholo, currently celebrating its 100th anniversary year, has been owned by the same Borquez/Salisbury family since the restaurant’s launch in 1923.

There are six El Cholos across Southern California: The original site on Western Ave., Downtown Los Angeles, Anaheim Hills, Corona del Mar, La Habra, and Santa Monica.

The winner of this year’s Orange County Business Journal’s 24th Annual “Family-Owned Business” Award was selected from 43 nominees that ranged from restaurateurs to construction to wealth management – to qualify, each company must have had at least two family members actively involved in the business. Each of the 43 nominees has a legacy that extends throughout the fabric of Orange County. The awards event was created by the Orange County Business Journal as a perfect opportunity by which to recognize Orange-County-based family-owned firms that have distinguished themselves via their business accomplishments and contributions to the local community.

Regarding the award win, Ron Salisbury said, “This year, we have been so very fortunate to have received a great deal of recognition for the wonderful journey of our one-hundred-year-old family business. Receiving this honor from the prestigious Orange County Business Journal during their annual event (May 31st) was a really special day for us, as the award was voted on by people who share our same world of running small businesses – and I certainly know exactly what that means and what that entails. It was also highly meaningful for me to share this award with 10 members of my family in attendance, including my youngest son, Brendon, who is El Cholo’s CFO, along with my brand new grandson, Daemon.”

In conjunction with the 100th Anniversary of El Cholo, the Salisbury Family has also announced the launch of their Charitable Gift Campaign Benefitting Pediatric Cancer Research. Monies raised through the campaign will be donated to LA Children’s Hospital and to Orange County’s Children’s Hospital/CHOC Foundation.  The Salisbury Family have supported the hospitals since 2007 and are inviting customers to join them in this worthy cause.

To participate in this charitable campaign, every El Cholo customer who makes a $100- donation while visiting any one of the six Southern California El Cholos will receive a VIP NACHOS CARD by which they can enjoy Carmen’s Nacho’s free throughout the rest of 2023.

In addition, anyone making the $100 donation will also become eligible to win one of these exciting prizes:

** A Helicopter Ride, a Duffy Boat Cruise and Dinner for Two at the Cannery Restaurant in Newport Beach ($ 2,500 value)

** Dinner for Eight at Louie’s by the Bay Restaurant in Newport Beach (value $1,500)

** Gift Certificates from participating iconic LA restaurants, including Phillippe French Dip, Langers, Pinks, Lawry’s, Musso & Frank, The Original Pantry and Tam O’Shanter

** El Cholo is also asking all customers to add $1.00 into their check, with all of those additional one-dollar proceeds going to Children’s Cancer Research.
